Specialty Coffee Quality
Perdido Coffee is not just any ordinary coffee. Its flavours and cupping numbers catapult us into the Specialty Grade Coffee category. Our coffee is grown at high-up in the Nicaraguan mountains and much care is taken by the farmer, Gil Almeida. He ensures each micro-climate batch of Perdido Coffee beans, meets and exceeds his exacting standards. Perdido Coffee benefits form some shade growth as well as a natural growth cycle which enhances the flavour of every coffee bean.
Best Value to Our Clients
Specialty Coffee normally comes with a premium price tag. At Perdido Coffee, the Canadian owner, Gil Almeida wants everyone to be able to indulge in a great cup of coffee. He is continually improving his farming practices which translate into an amazing coffee experience that is available, at a reasonable cost, to everyone.
Socially Responsible Growing Practices
Inherent respect for Mother Nature is one of our fundamental values. The present crisis resulting from global climate changes is creating a shortage of land that is conducive to growing coffee. To that end, our cultivation practices are more organic than many so-called “organic” producers
At both Fincas, our valuable exotic hardwood trees are never cut down, rather, the branches are trimmed to allow the much-needed sunshine and the trees to continue to grow. We make most of our own organic pesticides and herbicides or use organic supplementation. Our fertilizers are made from a combination of organic byproducts including what remains after our coffee cherries are processed.
We are blessed with rich mountain volcanic soil teeming with nutrients. This gives our coffee a solid base from seed to coffee-producing trees and gives Perdido Coffee its superior quality.
The owner of Perdido Coffee not only “talks-the-talk” but “walks-the-talk” when it comes to the working conditions on his 2 fincas, El Perdido and El Crystal. Gil Almeida, originally from Canada, now make his home in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. He has married a beautiful Nicaraguan woman and they have had their first child in Nicaragua. He is deeply invested in his new homeland and pays his workers, many who have been with him for years, a better than average Nicaraguan wage. Their working conditions are safe, hospitable and everyone is treated with kindness. Family members live and work on both fincas of Perdido Coffee and all workers are fed during the harvest and often helped with personal needs. The owner would rather have high quality and so he pays a premium to his harvesters for their attention to detail.
We at Perdido Coffee believe that it is our duty and obligation to give back to the people of Nicaragua. We believe in giving back to the very people that have made our Perdido Coffee adventure come true. The people of Nicaragua are kind, warm and care about the well-being of each other. Why should we be any different? The Canadian Owner understands the needs of his new home. He loves this country so much.
